Artifact 1: Douglass, Orwell Timed Writing

 

In class we had to write a well writen essay explaining what Orwell, or Douglass have to say about power and importance of communication and the langauge skills that enable this communication. Before this assignemnt was given, I had to read Orwell's '1984',  "Politics and the English Language", and a chapter of Douglass' "Learning to Read and Write". My essay consisted of 5 paragraphs, an introduction, three body paragrphs for each reading, and a conclusion. With doing this assignment, I learned how powerful and important language is to our society and freeodom. I also realized that many works, books, essays from different authors have the same overall meaning or theme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Artifact 2 : Choice Book

 

For this project, I had to choose a book to annotate while reading it. The book I choose was Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice". The book is about the Bennet family in the 1800s when two wealthy men arive in their town. Elizabeth and Jane Bennet, the eldest daughters attract the attention of these men, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley. Austen goes through their stories about pride and prejudice and they learn to understand each other. Reading this book, as taught me where I am in the reading level and has showed me what I am interested in. I also learned that don't judge a book by its ccover, quite literally. When I first picked up this book, I heard it was hard and I didnt think I would like as much as I did now. So, next time I choose a book to read on my free time, I explore all my options.

Artifact 3 : Revision Plan on OFK Essay

 

I had to read the book "The Once and the Future King" by T.H White in order to write this essay. My teacher had graded the essays and everyone had to have a private conversation with the teacher about there grade, even if it was good or bad. In these conversations, my teacher talked to me about the mistakes I made in the essay. After the conversion we had to choice to get extra points by identifying the issues and researching them and fixing the mistakes in the essay. Through this assignment I learned how to aviod mistakes like passive vioce, and comma splice. I also learned how to correct these mistakes.
